Project Description

BETWEENNESS Installation #001 Door

The ordinariness of this house is formed by a collection of old banal "things" that seem to have an unknown history.

The placement of these "things" is determined through their conversation with the "things" that already live within this house.

The story made through their conversation creates a memory of this house- a house that is physical and a house that is imagined.

The imagined house can exist anywhere.

Betweenness is the subtle destruction of ordinariness at the intersection of two imaginary houses.

Betweenness exists somewhere at this point.

BETWEENNESS is a collaborative project based around a series of domestic installations that explore ‘living’ histories and ‘living’ spaces through conversations and correspondence between artists, artworks, places and things. Contributors are invited to create their own responses to a set of prompts – a ‘thing’ (object), and a corresponding piece of text.

Responses are installed within the BETWEENNESS project space (also a domestic space) and lived with for a timeframe. Guests are then welcomed into the “living installation”. In doing so, the project seeks to examine the idea of the house as a phenomenon comprising of two distinct conditions: the ‘physical house’, related to our daily actions and activities, and the ‘imaginary house’: a fluid collection of objects and memories able to be transposed across time and space.
