The ordinariness of this house is formed by a collection of old banal “things” that seem to have an unknown history. The placement of these “things” is determined through their conversation with the “things” that already live within this house. The story made through their conversation creates the memory of this house: a house that is physical and a house that is imagined. The imagined house can exist anywhere. Betweenness is the subtle destruction of ordinariness at the intersection of two imaginary houses. Betweenness exists somewhere at this point.
BETWEENNESS is a new collaborative installation project, presenting a series of domestic installations formed through conversations between artist, artwork, object, place and ‘living’ history. At the conclusion of the first event, Barbara sat down with Ayano Toki and Jonathan Kopinski to talk about the origins of the project.
